Fuel prices in 2022 fluctuated more in states with cheaper gasoline

Gas prices for Texans and Wisconsinites, who currently enjoy some of the least expensive gas in the country, jumped the most this year — by roughly 80%, topping out at just below $5 a gallon in June. But in Hawaii, where gas is still more than $5 a gallon, their peak reflected just a 31% increase.

Note: Data as of December 28. Data reflects the percentage change between the peak daily average price per gallon of regular gasoline and the minimum in each state in 2022.
