More than a dozen states do not have wrongful conviction compensation laws
Thirty-six states and the District of Columbia have laws that provide financial compensation to those who have been wrongfully convicted, but 14 states do not have any such laws in place. According to the National Registry of Exonerations, 2,810 people have had their convictions overturned since 1989.
