Dozens of bills aimed at restricting educational curriculum introduced in 2022

Lawmakers considered a record-setting number of bills this year that either prohibit educators from mentioning gender identity or sexuality in the classroom, or allow parents to opt their children out of curriculum they find objectionable. Many states have passed previous versions of controversial "Don't Say Gay" bills in the '80s and '90s that were previously unenforced, lapsed or repealed, making the bills signed this year in Alabama and Florida the first of their kind passed in over 20 years.
