The arch would be built in the middle of a symbolic Civil War connection

President Donald Trump's proposed arch would fall between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington House — the memorial to Confederate leader Robert E. Lee. Arlington Memorial Bridge "physically and symbolically linked the north and south as a symbol of reunion," post-Civil War, according to the National Park Service.
