Few Cornell students found responsible for sexual assault were expelled

Cornell reviewed 51 formal complaints of sexual assault or attempted sexual assault from mid-2020 to mid-2024. Of the cases reviewed, 19 cases were dismissed or withdrawn, 16 were found responsible for sexual assault, 15 were found not responsible and 1 was found responsible for a lesser violation.

Of the 16 cases where students were found responsible for sexual assault, 7 were sanctioned with disciplinary probation, written reprimand, and/or directed study. 6 were suspended, 2 were expelled and 1 has an appeal pending.
